Favourite MoviesThe Breakfast Club.

“Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was* wrong. But we think you’re crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us… In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basket case, a princess, and a criminal. Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, the Breakfast Club.”

The Breakfast Club

“Remember how you said your parents use you to get back at each other? Wouldn’t I be outstanding in that capacity?”

This was probably one of my favorite themes in The Breakfast Club. I think it’s too often that we look at people based on their stereotypes. That quiet nerdy kid isn’t always timid and self-degrading, just as the princess isn’t always prissy and pretentious. Sometimes the jock, who has everything going for him, may just have the heart to fall for a girl who lies low below his social standards. The low-life criminal isn’t always living on his insecurities, and behind every basket case there is beautiful human being beaming with confidence. No one is how we see them. One of the best messages that this movie sends is to keep an open mind. Be accepting, be loving, and treat everyone the same. People are not their labels. Sometimes you have to look beyond and see what great things some people have to offer the world.
